Grez-sur-Loing, France. As I glide through Wilson Street on my electric skateboard, I am immediately captivated by the sight of the awe-inspiring Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Laurent Church. This remarkable church, dating back to the 12th century, has a fascinating history intertwined with the Saint-Jean-le-Vif de Sens priory. It served as the church for this priory and has stood as a beacon of faith for centuries.
The church’s ancient walls bear witness to the passage of time and the stories of those who once worshipped here. Among its treasures are several tombs from the 16th century, a testament to the enduring presence of generations past.
Continuing my journey through the charming village, I come across the magnificent Tour de Ganne. This imposing tower, built by Louis VI in 1127, stands proudly on the left bank of the Loing, at the same time as the construction of the castle. It serves as a tangible link to the region’s storied past and bears witness to the architectural prowess of the time.
Crossing the old stone bridge, I am transported back in time. This historic bridge, with its sturdy stone arches, has faithfully connected the people of Grez-sur-Loing for centuries. It has witnessed the comings and goings of generations, serving as a vital link between communities and fostering trade and interaction.
As I glide past the bustling stadium, I pause to let pedestrians cross, and I am met with astonishment from a passerby who exclaims, “It’s electric!” My trusty electric skateboard never fails to amaze.
With the enchanting forest of Fontainebleau beckoning in the distance, I bid farewell to Grez-sur-Loing. This picturesque village, with its magnificent church, historic tower, and ancient stone bridge, holds a special place in the hearts of its residents and visitors alike.
